“Daft moment” “Uncharacteristic” 8/10s in Jekyll and Hyde Sheffield Wednesday draw with Luton Town

Sheffield Wednesday drew with Luton Town on Saturday, unable to overcome the dangers of their opening attempt despite a strong and bright second half performance.

A brilliant run through the center of the Luton defense by Djeidi Gassama led to a penalty kick from Michael Smith, who now has seven goals for the season.

Wednesday supporters expressed their displeasure with the performance at halftime after the first half was dull and Luton took the lead thanks to a long-range goal from Alfie Doughty.

Wednesday is still searching for answers at home as Luton’s winless streak now stands at nine games.

The Owls’ 2.22 xG figures compared to Luton’s 0.4 tell you all you need to know about a game that they should have won in the end.

Nevertheless, Stuart Armstrong had a strong second dig debut and made more strong efforts elsewhere. The ratings are shown here.

James Beadle: 6

Would it be cruel to imply that Beadle might have had a hand on Doughty’s well-struck attempt, even though it came from a great distance away? Cleverly heading out for some aerial stuff.

Yan Valery: 6

had a few good moments in the future, including a well-placed cross that was worthy of an assist in the 40th minute.

More could have been done to prevent Doughty’s incredible opening.

On fifty minutes, he was crowded out despite having a good chance. Feel a bit heavy at times.

Michael Ihiekwe: 7

won headers and carried out his duties. The ball was at feet for a few hesitant moments, but other than that, it was sound and sturdy enough.

Di’Shon Bernard: 6

won one or two significant moments. On 56 minutes, when he might have had more time, he squirted one over the bar.

At times, it might have been possible to move the ball a bit more quickly, but that might have been an instruction.

Johnson was given a yellow card for a clumsy one that was 74 minutes late.

Max Lowe: 6

Uncharacteristic and possibly representative of the pitch more than anything else were a few mishandled passes in the first half. made contributions in both directions.

Callum Paterson: 5

Though he had good early-door positions and deservedly maintained his spot in the side, he ultimately made little difference elsewhere.

Armstrong, making his debut, is off at the break. Shea Charles, age six

A disturbance. fought hard and won ground duels and headers. In possession, tidy, if not sparkling. got better over time.

Barry Bannan: 7

Despite not playing much in the first half, Bannan became the main man in the second half and played a part in some of the more promising moves down the left.

Djeidi Gassama: 8

A few dazzling flicks. Excellent defensive play. One of the few who actually got credit for the first half.

won the penalty after an incredible, frantic run. A little bit in and out, but what a stupid moment.

Jamal Lowe: 5

A couple of early doors were a nice touch, but they couldn’t hold up against any serious threat.

Although it wasn’t totally his fault, he had fewer touches than any other player during the first half and was substituted for Smith at halftime.

Josh Windass: 7

performed a subtle roll. He didn’t have a great first half; like the rest of the Wednesday team, he did much better after the break.

After the hour, a cut-in onto his left foot almost resulted in a goal. grew in danger.

Michael Smith: 8

walked on to provide a greater target during the break and accomplished all of that and more. Leveled things up with a sweet penalty strike.

One of the few things that appeared to change the outcome of the game in the second half was his introduction.

Stuart Armstrong: 8

For the second half, on. displayed a quick burst of speed and superb running timing. kept things moving and popped the ball around nicely. A really encouraging start.

Marvin Johnson N/A

On for the final ten minutes.
