‘I’ve not put this out anywhere’: Sky journalist shares what he’s now been told about Matt Targett and Leeds
Given recent concerns about profit and sustainability, sales at St James’ Park may also be crucial, but Newcastle United may wish to add some new players to help them in their pursuit of the top four. Leeds United, meanwhile, has some work ahead of them as they attempt to make a comeback to the Premier League. Leeds is interested in the left-back, and Newcastle is prepared to let go of Matt Targett this month. Keith Downie of Sky Sports provided an update on Leeds’ interest in the left-back on his YouTube channel. Downie offered his knowledge of Leeds and Targett. The reporter provided an update that he hadn’t previously disclosed, saying that he had recently been informed that Leeds had discussed Targett with the former Barcelona player, but they were awaiting the outcome of their negotiations with Junior Firpo because Real Sociedad was interested in him.
Cameron Archer has also recently been linked to Leeds. “I anticipate Matt Targett leaving. I haven’t announced anything yet, but I was informed yesterday that Leeds had held some discussions, but Leeds is awaiting word on the status of its left-back, Junior Firpo,” Downie stated. “Real Sociedad is showing some interest there, so if Firpo were to leave, Targett might be a possibility, but as of right now, Firpo is still a Leeds player.” Additionally, I’ve been informed that Southampton and Watford are interested in Targett, but I was originally informed a few weeks ago that Leicester was also interested.
Statistics for the Matt Targett Championship
Although Matt Targett has played in the Premier League for the majority of his career, he has made one appearance in the Championship. In fact, Targett joined Fulham for the second half of their 2018–19 season a few years earlier, making a similar transfer to the possible loan to Leeds. The full-back had an outstanding record while at Fulham and quickly made a name for himself as the first choice at Craven Cottage. Fulham’s amazing run in the second part of the season, which culminated in promotion at Wembley in the playoff final, was sparked by Targett’s arrival that January. In addition to being an excellent full-back, Targett’s arrival allowed Ryan Sessegnon to move farther advanced down the left wing and set up some crucial goals. If Targett joins Leeds before the transfer window closes, Leeds will be hoping he can make a similar kind of difference.
