Sometimes for footballers it’s one bad thing after another and for Feyenoord’s Justin Bijlow, a failed move to Southampton last summer seems to have been the start of a horrible run of events.
Bijlow started that game in goal but only lasted 36 minutes as he was forced off through injury in the first half.
There’s now concern that the 27-year-old could be set for another spell on the sidelines and another injury lay-off.
His career has been blighted with injuries in recent years, with the goalkeeper suffering from injuries to his knee, toe, groin, foot, wrist, calf and other muscle problems as well as suffering from Coronavirus.
It was his wrist injuries which ruined his move to Southampton in the summer, with the Saints having doubts over how two previous wrist fractures, which he suffered in 2002 and saw him miss 27 games in total, had been treated.
Southampton eventually abandoned a deal with Feyenoord and signed Aaron Ramsdale, leaving Bijlow to return to the Dutch club and a place on the bench.
He’s not been enjoying himself since and now another knee injury could see him set for another spell on the sidelines, another setback according to Kenneth Perez.
“It was setback after setback for Feyenoord, but especially for Bijlow this is very sad,” he said.
“You have to imagine that after all those injuries you no longer have faith in your own top sport body.
“This makes it very difficult for him to make another transfer. I think this is it for him. He plays football at Feyenoord or lower.”
