Nottingham’s Victoria Station in 12 fascinating and nostalgic photos

On the location of the city’s former workhouse, the Nottingham Victoria Station was constructed and inaugurated for service in 1900. More than 120 years later, the clock tower that was a part of the railroad station is still standing tall.

The station served as a major transportation hub for soldiers leaving to fight in both World Wars and for tourists arriving in the city for many years. Nevertheless, the station was completely shut down less than 70 years after it first opened.

The current shopping mall, which also goes by the name Victoria, was built in 1967 when the Victoria Station was decommissioned and dismantled. The clock tower and the nearby hotel are the only remnants of the station, which was the first enclosed commercial area in the United Kingdom at the time.

The abandoned Victorian rail tunnel beneath the city tells a different tale. More over 3,000 people signed a petition in 2022 calling for the tunnels to be reopened so that public tours might take place.
