MND FUNDRAISING DINNER WITH MARCUS STEWART TO BE HELD AT THE JOHN SMITH’S STADIUM

A fundraising dinner with former Huddersfield Town legend Marcus Stewart is to be held at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Marcus, who was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in September 2022, played his last game for Town exactly

25 years ago this week.

Billed as Terriers v MND, An Evening with Marcus Stewart & Friends, will be held on Friday May 2 2025.

The event will raise funds for MND research charities including the Darby Rimmer Foundation, set up by former

Bradford City and Liverpool defender Stephen Darby, and the Mel Evans MBE Foundation.

The Darby Rimmer Foundation has been supported by Marcus and his family since his diagnosis.

Marcus, who is head of player development at Yeovil Town, still has close connections to Huddersfield as his sons

Kian and Finlay both play for Huddersfield RUFC. Proud dad Marcus is a regular on the touchline at Lockwood Park.

Marcus took part in a 175-mile March of the Day sponsored walk last year and stopped off at the John Smith’s

Stadium as part of a route that took in 16 football grounds.

The fundraising dinner has been organised by James Beattie, of Huddersfield-based See It Now Group, who was

inspired by Marcus’s positivity and dedication.

James said: “Marcus is a legend to all Huddersfield Town fans and I last saw Marcus at a fundraising dinner at Old

Trafford in November during which he gave a very emotional speech about his condition and dreams of finding a

cure for this terrible disease.

“This inspired me to do something to support the cause and with Marcus’s blessing we have put together this event

to raise money for two MND charities that are both doing great research work into finding a cure for MND. It

promises to be a great night but also an emotional one.”

The event will also involve several of Marcus’s former teammates from his four years at Town between 1996 and

2000.

James is seeking companies or individuals to help sponsor the event to ensure as much money as possible is raised

for the charities. One sponsor already signed up is law firm Chadwick Lawrence.
