Former Leeds United midfielder Glen Kamara appears to face an uncertain future following reports of a fresh development at Rennes.
The 29-year-old left Elland Road in the summer, signing for Ligue 1 club Rennes for a reputed £8 million.
It hasn’t worked out for the Finland international in France, and current reports claim he has been declared surplus to needs.
Middlesbrough, Sunderland, and Burnley have all been connected with the midfielder, but The Northern Echo has dismissed reports of a return to Yorkshire.
The club is said to be unable to compete with the financial strength of Saudi Pro League side Al-Shabab, who transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reports are in negotiations about a move.
However, it appears that even Al-Shabab may fail to gain Kamara’s signature. According to Romano, Rennes fired manager Jorge Sampaoli, leaving Kamara in uncertainty as he awaits word on his future.
It does not seem unlikely that a new manager would wish to maintain Kamara, an experienced operator who had been a regular for Rennes until last month.
Kamara signed with Leeds in the summer of 2023, returning to England following a successful period with Rangers.
The former Arsenal prospect helped the Whites advance to the Championship play-off final and started at Wembley Stadium in the 1-0 loss to Southampton.
He left after 42 appearances in Leeds colours.
