“Makes sense” – Carlton Palmer reacts to Grady Diangana, West Brom exit talk
The 26-year-old is out of contract with West Brom at the end of the season, which has created the option for abroad clubs to establish a pre-contract arrangement with the versatile forward. Serie A side Parma and La Liga outfit Celta Vigo are two prospective suitors that have been credited with an interest in obtaining his contract, with the Baggies understood to be requesting a fee of €3m/£2.5m to sell him immediately. Africa Footare is reporting that Diangana has turned down a three-year extension to stay at The Hawthorns, while stating that an agreement has been reached to join Celta Vigo. It is still unclear if he will commit to West Brom in the long run, which could be a crucial choice that seriously hurts Albion’s chances of getting promoted.
“Hard to replace” Diangana, according to Carlton Palmer
Pundit Carlton Palmer, in an exclusive interview with Football League World, says that although West Brom would benefit much from keeping Diangana, he also understands the risk of holding onto a player who may have been courted by another team. Palmer stated: “West Brom and Tony Mowbray find themselves in a difficult position regarding Grady Diangana.” Palmer was discussing the advantages and disadvantages of selling Diangana for a price now or letting his contract expire at the conclusion of the season. The 26-year-old is refusing to sign a new contract, which expires in the summer. West Brom made a three-year contract offer to him, but he declined. Celta Vigo is interested in this.He can sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs because he is in the final six months of his contract, but West Bromwich Albion is asking €3 million to release him this window.
“Considering where West Brom is in the playoffs, it’s a tough one. Do you retain him through the season’s conclusion? Grady will contribute if they have a successful season finale. He must continue to perform well, and given the amount they will get for him, it will be difficult for them to find a replacement during this transfer window. Therefore, it would probably be wise for West Bromwich Albion to hold onto him until the end of the current campaign and allow his contract to expire. Isn’t that bittersweet? What do you do? He played really, really well against Portsmouth. “His stats are four goals and two assists, and the difference between the teams at the top could be marginal this season, and West Brom would have to find a late replacement in the window.”
