Leeds United is anticipated to finalize the deal for the Newcastle United outcast.

According to The Northern Echo, Leeds United is in early negotiations to recruit Matt Targett, a left-back for Newcastle United.

To yet, Leeds United’s transfer window has been incredibly quiet, and the next few days aren’t expected to be particularly active either.

Maintaining the core of the outstanding squad they have put together has been LUFC’s main priority.

There has been room for improvement, though, and considering the lack of depth in crucial areas like defense, the lack of activity has come as a bit of a surprise.

However, it now appears that the Whites will make a last-minute move to strengthen their defensive lineup.

The Northern Echo reports that Leeds United is nearing the end of negotiations to sign left-back Matt Targett from Newcastle United. There are advanced talks going on, and it is anticipated that a selling agreement will be reached.

LUFC was linked earlier this week, but according to reports from other sources, he was not being sought.

But with the Magpies choosing to cash in before Targett reaches the final year of his contract, which expires in 2026, it appears like he may be moving to Elland Road.

That should make him an excellent player to have in the Championship, and if the Whites are successful in their promotion attempt this season, he will be ready for a move to the Premier League.

The 29-year-old has made 163 Premier League games, contributing three goals and nine assists during that time. He has also played for Southampton and Aston Villa. Although he will provide a strong defensive presence, his remarkable left foot allows him to make some dangerous wing crosses.

The replacement for Firpo?
In the Championship, Firpo has been an excellent left-back for Leeds United. After failing to make an impression in the Premier League, he has significantly raised his profile among fans.
