Key development in Leeds United’s bid to sign Cameron Archer at Southampton
The Whites’ interest has been described by Ben Jacobs, although the Premier League’s bottom team has rejected a deal, according to Alex Crook of talkSPORT. Leeds has previously been linked to the forward; in the summer of 2023, Alan Nixon reported that Sheffield United had reached an agreement with Aston Villa for £18 million, leaving Leeds in the dust after their relegation to the Championship in May of the same year.
Joel Piroe was bought by Leeds instead, although despite the Dutchman’s ten goals in the league so far this season, neither he nor Mateo Joseph have been Leeds’ complete front-runner. Farke’s team has not yet made a signing this month, and the Leeds manager has already stated that the team is hoping for a quiet January transfer market after a busy summer.
Cameron Archer is up for loan from Leeds United.
Farke talked about his ideas on what he might like to bring in in the latter part of the January window prior to Leeds’ trip to Burnley on Monday night. According to The Yorkshire Evening Post, he has three spots in mind: No. 10, No. 9, and a central defensive alternative. According to Crook’s description of Leeds’ rejected bid, Archer seems to be one such alternative. Given that Jacobs has explained Southampton’s position that they are hesitant to allow him to leave this winter, it is uncertain if they will make another offer.
