Face of pickpocket who travelled over 100 miles to target mums in Birmingham city centre

This is the first image of a prolific pickpocket who preyed on mothers and elderly people in Birmingham’s downtown. Fadi Zemmour was imprisoned this week after committing twelve crimes over the course of a three-month crime spree. In one instance, the 36-year-old targeted a victim who was preoccupied with helping an elderly relative, and he also targeted mothers who were occupied with their children in strollers. We revealed that Zemmour stole up to £5,000 worth of cell phones from women in the city, including shopping in the Bullring. He was described in court as a “smooth” and “skilful” operator who used an accomplice to stand near his targets to divert them.

According to the police, the thief spent three months last summer traveling from London to Birmingham to carry out the crimes. On December 12, he was taken into custody in the capital.

When Zemmour appeared at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on December 17, he confessed to eight thefts, three attempted thefts, and one fraud by false representation. Yesterday, January 28, the same court sentenced him to 16 months in prison.

“Pickpocketing is not a petty crime as some believe,” stated PC Amy O’Connor of West Midlands Police. It may affect the victims for a long time.

“I’d encourage everyone to be on the lookout for the tricks and tactics that pickpockets use so they can help protect themselves and keep their property safe.”
