Exclusive: Matt Grimes medical update after Swansea to Coventry transfer agreed

According to sources who spoke to Football Insider, Swansea midfielder Matt Grimes will have a physical at Coventry on Thursday after the two teams agreed on a cost for his services.

After the teams reached a complete agreement on a transfer fee, the Swansea captain, who signed a new contract in August 2024, is now ready to make the move.

Grimes has also reached a personal agreement to join the Sky Blues under Frank Lampard.

The 29-year-old has made 333 appearances and scored 16 goals for Swansea since coming from Exeter nearly ten years ago.

Grimes has started all 32 of the team’s games in all competitions this season and appeared in every game for Luke Williams’ team.

Lampard’s Coventry has been keen to bolster their midfield options and is active in the transfer market.According to Football Insider, they are also interested in Tyler Goodrham, a standout for Oxford United.

Grimes’ transfer would be a huge coup as they want to bolster their team. Grimes has already scheduled a medical and has expressed a desire to join the team.

Grimes’ availability for Coventry’s forthcoming meeting against his old team on February 1st is still up in the air while Swansea awaits confirmation of the deal.

Grimes’ departure puts additional strain on Luke Wiliams’ transfer intentions as the window draws to a close.

Ethan Galbraith, a midfielder for Leyton Orient, is being pursued by the team to strengthen their midfield, but Grimes’ defensive midfield replacement will probably be the main focus.

Since the captain has been a key member of the team, his absence would leave a gap both on the field and in terms of leadership.

Lampard’s team has won three straight league games and is presently ranked 12th in the Championship. They lead Swansea by four points going into their match on February 1st, which is sure to be a pivotal match.

In other news, a number of EFL clubs are keeping tabs on this non-league phenomenon, including Coventry and Swansea.
