After Sara Holmgaard’s cross was clinically finished into the top corner by January signing Kelly Gago, the home
team broke the scoreless draw in the 48th minute of a game with limited opportunities.
Everton’s speed was too much for Tottenham to handle, and in the 90th minute, Heather Payne struck the bottom
right corner from beyond the box to give the Toffees the victory.
If Everton wins, they will play Chelsea, the five-time champions, in the fifth round on Sunday, February 9.
Earlier this month, bad weather across the nation had forced the postponement of all four of Wednesday’s
matches.
Fellow Women’s Super League side Brighton, meanwhile, earned their spot in a fifth-round tie against Aston
Villa with a composed 4-1 win against second-tier Durham.
The Seagulls were in control from the beginning, with Bruna Vilamala turning home at the back post to open the
scoring in the sixth minute. Michelle Agyemang then netted a penalty and Guro Bergsvand converted from close
range after a Vilamala shot was pushed on to the crossbar to extend their lead.
Durham did not give up despite going in 3-0 down at the break and made the most of Brighton’s timid start to the
second half when Hannah Blake combined with fellow substitute Kaila Novak to send a low cross past Meliana
Loeck.
The goal only ever seemed likely to serve as consolation for Durham and even they conceded again with the last
kick of the game when Nikita Parris tapped in a from close range after the visitors failed to Brighton’s efforts from
a corner.
Arsenal, who have won the competition a record 14 times, cruised into the fifth round with a dominant 5-0
triumph over Championship side Bristol City.
Stina Blackstenius opened the scoring in just the third minute by tapping in a low Beth Mead delivery before Frida
Maanum extended their lead after eight minutes when Robins goalkeeper Jackie Burns dropped her effort from
the edge of the box.
Blackstenius then got her second of the evening as she expertly curled an effort into the far corner from outside the
area before Mead made it four by nodding home a Maanum cross from close range.
Arsenal continued to control the game in the second half and, although not as potent in the final third as before
the break, netted a fifth when a Mead cross dipped over Burns at the near post.
Liverpool thrashed 10-player West Ham 5-0 to set-up a tie with third-tier Rugby Borough.
After a quick counterattack by Olivia Smith, Matt Beard’s team extended their lead 15 minutes later when Leanne
Kiernan around goalkeeper Megan Walsh and slotted home from a tight angle. The first goal came after three
minutes after West Ham defender Camila Saez diverted a corner into her own goal.
Between Liverpool’s goals, West Ham believed they had tied the score, but Viviane Asseyi’s header was disallowed
for offside. When Amber Tysiak was sent off for a late tackle on Taylor Hinds, the hosts’ situation worsened.
In order to complete a decisive victory, Liverpool took advantage of their player advantage in the second half.
