Big Werner upgrade: Spurs set for talks over sealing “unbelievable” signing.
Ange Postecoglou has been the manager of Tottenham Hotspur for a season and a half, with mixed results.
The Australian has transformed his squad into one of the most entertaining in all of European football, but this, along with injuries, has made them very easy to beat.
He has signed a number of talented players, including Dominic Solanke, Micky van de Ven, and Archie Gray, as well as Radu Dragusin and Timo Werner.
The German winger has struggled in North London, therefore it’s encouraging that recent reports suggest a potential replacement for him might join the club this month.
Tottenham are looking for outstanding talent.
Tottenham and other teams are interested in Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel, according to trade analyst Fabrizio Romano.
Romano has disclosed that, in addition to the Lilywhites, Manchester United and seven other unidentified teams have made contact to sign the player on a loan contract for the remainder of the season, with discussions expected to begin shortly.
However, according to the Italian writer, the player is looking for assurances about playing time, which Postecoglou may provide with Solanke out injured.
Spurs may consider accepting a £40 million deal to trade the kid permanently, according to recent sources.
Overall, while there is a lot of interest in Tel, the North Londoners should do everything they can to bring him to N17, since even on loan, he would be an excellent substitute for Werner.
How does Tel compare to Werner?
So, if Spurs can persuade the 19-year-old to join them for the rest of the season or beyond, he’ll be going to the club with the prospect of regular playing.
As a result, he would be higher in the pecking order than Werner, which we believe is perfectly right based on their similarities.
For example, the gap between the Frenchman’s form last season, when he was really playing, and the Germans this season is night and day.
The “unbelievable” prospect, as named by writer Florian Plettenberg, scored 10 goals and six assists in 41 appearances, totaling 1406 minutes. This equates to a goal involvement every 2.56 games or every 87.87 minutes.
In comparison, the former Chelsea ace scored four goals and contributed four assists in 28 appearances, totaling 1295 minutes. This averages to a goal involvement every 3.5 games, or every 161.87 minutes.
Unfortunately for the Stuttgart-born star, the comparison becomes even more one-sided when we look at their underlying data from the beginning of last season to the present.
For example, the Sarcelles-born dynamo leads the way in the majority of forward-relevant metrics, such as actual non-penalty goals plus assists, shots and shots on target, goals per shot and shot on target, successful take-ons, shot and goal-creating actions, and more, all per 90 minutes.

Finally, Tel is the considerably greater player in all essential ways, and he is also significantly younger.
Spurs should do everything they can to bring him to North London this month, maybe on more than a loan basis.
