The72’s writers offer their Blackburn Rovers vs Preston North End prediction ahead of the Championship clash on Friday.
Blackburn Rovers and Preston North End meet in the Championship on Friday night with Lancashire bragging rights at stake.
Blackburn Rovers come into their Friday night clash with Preston North End looking to get back to winning ways in the league.
Form has faltered in recent weeks but with other sides failing to capitalise, John Eustace’s side remain firmly in the play-off fight. They sit 7th in the Championship table, two points away from the top six.
A 2-1 defeat to Bristol City last time out made it three straight league losses for Rovers. They’ve lost six of the last nine, failing to score in five of those defeats.
As for Preston North End, they make the short trip to Blackburn Rovers knowing victory will move them to within two points of their rivals despite going into the game a hefty eight league positions behind them down in 15th.
Form is with Paul Heckingbottom and co too. They’re unbeaten in four and have won two in a row, losing only once in the last seven Championship matches.
Goals from Stefan Thordarson and Emil Riis secured the Lilywhites an impressive 2-1 win over Middlesbrough last time out. Their improved form puts them a comfortable 10 points clear of the drop after early fears of a relegation fight.
Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…
James Ray
“Blackburn Rovers have been lacking attacking threat in a big way recently. Many felt it would be an issue that would crop up despite early success, and it’s now proving a real problem for Eustace.
“He needs help in the transfer market, but the clock is ticking, and there is unlikely to be any incomings before the Preston North End clash.
“Form is with Preston North End and the previously impressive Ewood Park record has started to dwindle. Heckingbottom and co should be confident of a result and I think they’ll get it here, picking up a big win.”
Prediction: Blackburn Rovers 0-1 Preston North End.
Harry Mail
“Blackburn Rovers’ results have started to fall off and this is a chance for them to get back to winning ways.
“The Lancashire outfit need more firepower at the top end of the pitch and should delve into the market before the deadline.
“Preston North End will be in confident mood after their recent impressive results. They will be backed by big numbers at Ewood Park and won there last season.
“The Lilywhites should cause problems for the hosts here but I can see this one ending in a draw, with both teams on the scoresheet.”
Prediction: Blackburn Rovers 1-1 Preston North End
