Todd Cantwell ‘wasn’t where he wanted to be at Rangers’ as Blackburn Rovers boss takes pre season potshot
The midfielder has a ‘point to prove’ says Blackburn Rovers’ manager John Eustace
Blackburn Rovers manager John Eustace claims that Todd Cantwell “wasn’t where he wanted to be” at Rangers the
previous season.
The midfield player submitted a transfer request earlier this summer, which manager Philippe Clement made public.
The 26-year-old said he never expressed to the Belgian that he didn’t want to play for the team, but Eustace deduced
that his new recruit wanted to go since he wasn’t given the best opportunity to “showcase” his skills.
The manager claims that Cantwell isn’t quite ready to debut for his new team just yet, but he did disclose that his
fitness is getting better. Additionally, despite appearing to have “no pre-season” at Ibrox, he has displayed on-field
moments that suggest he is on the verge of a comeback.
Eustace remarked, “Todd’s coming in with a point to prove.” “At this level, Todd is an elite player. He has spent the
last few seasons with the Rangers, and he most likely didn’t want to be there last season. We will provide him with a
chance to demonstrate himself.
He is one of the best players at this level, and I have no doubt that he is driven to reach his previous success. We are
thrilled to have him here because he has a wealth of expertise and has been promoted three times out of the league.
Todd isn’t prepared to begin. He is behind many of the guys and hasn’t had a preseason. He has demonstrated in
training that he is becoming more fit, therefore we must appropriately handle him. Over the course of the next two or
three weeks, we will do that. We’ll have to wait and see, although he might be involved from the bench.
