Middlesbrough get transfer green light after deal agreed for top target & medical set

MARK Travers is set to be Middlesbrough’s next signing, with the goalkeeper heading for Teesside to undergo his medical after a loan deal was agreed with Bournemouth.

It’s a significant boost for Boro, who prioritised acquiring a goalkeeper in the final week of the transfer season following serious injuries to Sol Brynn and Seny Dieng.

Travers was Boro’s primary target, but the Championship club had to be patient in their pursuit, with the Cherries waiting until third-choice keeper Will Dennis returned from injury.
However, the relocation was approved on Tuesday night, and Travers was traveling north to complete it. He will sign on loan till the conclusion of the season.
Travers, a four-time Ireland international, has made 70 league appearances for Bournemouth and had a brief but impressive loan spell at Stoke City last season. He has appeared five times in the Premier League this season.

Boro needed to sign a goalkeeper this week, with Tom Glover the sole senior option for Michael Carrick following the injuries to Brynn and Dieng.

Travers’ arrival, assuming no last-minute hiccups, will be another huge boost in what is shaping up to be a productive and outstanding finale to the January window on Teesside. Ryan Giles, George Edmundson, and Morgan Whittaker all signed last week, and Boro are still looking to reinforce their midfield before Monday’s deadline.
