Cantwell injury latest as Blackburn Rovers boss gives update
After missing the loss to Bristol City, John Eustace is optimistic that Todd Cantwell will be able to play for Blackburn
Rovers again against Preston North End.
Cantwell left the team after Friday’s practice after suffering a calf injury against Coventry City. It was believed to be a
minor problem, and it is hoped that he will return for Friday’s match at Ewood Park.
With Owen Beck unable to start against the Robins, Rovers have a lot of players in the “red zone,” necessitating a
change in strategy. Andi Weimann, who scored the equaliser, is also having trouble with his hamstring, according to
Eustace.
“Owen Beck is really struggling at the moment. From a physical point of view, you know, the sports science team said
we’d be able to get a good 20 minutes out of him if that.
He’s a key player for us, so it goes without saying that we’ve had him on for the last 20 minutes. Since Hedgey is the
only other left-footed player we have, it was simple to decide to switch to a back three rather than have him start. The
shape alteration, in my opinion, was effective.
We had to give Owen some rest today because of this. For a young player, he has now played a lot of games.
He is undoubtedly in the red zone. Even though Andi Weimann is having a lot of trouble with his hamstring once
more, he showed up. And today, you can once more observe his quality at the appropriate moment.
“There are a lot of players who are going through the red zone at the moment, but they’re fully committed to the
football club and each other.”
Danny Batth and Callum Brittain both started even though they were substituted versus Coventry. From the bench,
Joe Rankin-Costello also emerged.
To the question of whether he expected them to be fit, Eustace said, “No, we certainly didn’t.”
Both of them practiced on Friday, and they were eager to play as soon as the scan results gave them confidence.
Danny is a real warrior, as you can see.
He’s now dealing with a lot of emotional and physical stress. And he’s performing admirably. It’s also evident that
Callum has had a lot of back problems and hamstring strain. He was excited to begin as soon as he realised it wasn’t
a burden, you know.
“I believe it simply reflects the players’ mindset. We had four scans on Thursday after they suffered some severe
blows on Tuesday.
They all raised their hands and eager to play when it was revealed that the injuries were quite mild. We would have
rotated them around or given them a break if we had the luxury. However, the guys have dashed through brick walls
once more.
