Sunderland receive major Louie Barry transfer update as January deal ‘agreed’

Sunderland-linked Aston Villa starlet Louie Barry is set to join Championship rivals Hull City on loan until the end of the season.

According to Hull Live, the relegation-threatened Tigers have won the race to sign Barry after owner Acun Ilicali met with Villa owner Nassef Sawiris about a deal. The forward, who primarily plays on the left wing, was loaned to Stockport County at the start of the season and throughout the season, and he thrived throughout his 18 months at Edgeley Park.

Barry scored an impressive 15 goals in 23 League One games this season, catching the attention of Championship clubs around the country. Sheffield United, Middlesbrough, Leeds United, and Derby County were among the clubs said to be interested in the winger, in addition to the Black Cats.

Celtic were also rumored to be interested in Barry, but it appears that he has decided to transfer to the MKM Stadium. His medical is scheduled for Tuesday, and the agreement is likely to be finalized by the end of the week.
Barry was supposed to be eager to play at a higher level after impressing so much in the third tier, and he will now have the opportunity to put his skills to the test against some of the division’s best clubs. Unfortunately for Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris, it won’t be long before he realizes what he could have won.

Hull are scheduled to visit the Stadium of Light on Saturday, February 22, as the rejuvenated Tigers try to distance themselves from the bottom three, while Sunderland continue their pursuit of automatic promotion.
