Reading will aim to keep former attacker Jon-Dadi Bodvarsson quiet this evening as they prepare to face relegation-threatened Burton Albion. The Royals, on a two-game losing run, travel to Pirelli Stadium to face the Brewers, who are 21st in the third tier. Despite their dismal position, Gary Bowyer’s side has won their last two games, with former striker Bodvarsson scoring three goals in that span. The Iceland international arrived from Wrexham last week, having scored 17 goals in 56 appearances for the Royals between 2017 and 2019, before moving on to Millwall and Bolton Wanderers.

Bowyer spoke glowingly of Bodvarsson’s influence in the East Midlands following their 4-2 victory over Rotherham United on Saturday, which moved them within a win of leaving the relegation zone. “I can’t praise him enough with the impact that he’s had considering he arrived last Thursday,” he told the club’s press corps. “He’s one of those guys whose amazing career he’s had so far has made the lads love him and how much of a professional he is; they’ve tapped into him, and he’s gone and delivered with the goals he’s gotten for himself. I don’t want to call him a ‘old fashioned’ number nine because that’s not cool anymore, but he is with his hold up play.

“You can also see the impact he’s had on Rumarn (Burrell) in terms of teaching him how to play centre forward as well and that’s what we wanted to bring him in. You could also see at the end there how much of an impact he’s had on the fans, it’s just fantastic that they’ve took him in so quickly and that’s reflected in his performances.”
Reading suffered a 2-0 defeat against Leyton Orient, following a 3-1 home loss to Stockport County the previous week. Looking ahead to the match this evening, manager Noel Hunt said: “They’ve been busy in the transfer market thus far. We need to make sure we’re okay, assess tomorrow [Sunday] and Monday, and then go again. They won again today, so they will celebrate. It is up to us to go and combat it.
