Manager breaks silence on Southampton’s £2m transfer bid.
Reading FC manager Noel Hunt has commented on Southampton’s £2 million offer for defender Andre Garcia. Hunt says the offer is too low based on their expected valuation.
Southampton have expressed interest in Reading’s prodigy defender Andre Garcia. And why not, given that Garcia is only 17 years old and has been a constant presence in his club’s backline. To secure such a future talent, the Saints made a £2 million bid for Andre Garcia. However, as things are, the offer has been turned down as unsatisfactory.
Manager breaks silence on Southampton’s £2m transfer bid
While Reading manager Noel Hunt confirmed the Saints’ bid, he felt the price paid was significantly lower than expected. If that wasn’t enough to stun Southampton, Reading may not agree to Garcia’s departure at all. That is according to Reading fan commentator Johnny Hunt, who feels the club will not sell Garcia easily today. Johnny Hunt told Football League World: “I think with a week to go in the transfer, we won’t need to sell him. We would certainly want to maintain a young talent like that. Clearly, this was the worst-case scenario Southampton could have anticipated. That leaves the club with two options: continue with the lot or acquiesce to Reading’s £4 million demand.
Certainly, the Saints would prefer to stick with the second option all day. While Southampton’s attack is frequently criticised, their defence hasn’t performed considerably better than their counterpart. The Saints’ defence, which has conceded the most times this season, has failed them at critical moments. Furthermore, with Kyle Walker-Peters and Charlie Taylor due to leave soon, Southampton should pursue Andre Garcia. For the time being, it is unclear whether the Saints will make a brave decision in Garcia’s instance or subsequently repent for him, like Che Adams did.
