
Exclusive: Reading reject Stevenage bid for ex-Tottenham star Michael Craig
Football Insider has been informed by sources that Reading has turned down a bid for versatile star Michael Craig from League One rivals Stevenage.
Craig’s contract expires this summer, and Stevenage has offered to sign the former Tottenham player on a long-term basis.
Ahead of next week’s transfer deadline (3 February), Boro’s offer for the 21-year-old was rejected by the Royals.
After leaving Tottenham at the end of his contract, he joined Reading on a free transfer in 2022 and is now a vital member of their team.
This season, Craig has made 29 appearances for the Berkshire team in all competitions and has moved into a right-back position.
In 24 of those games, the former Spurs player has started and scored one goal.
He is scheduled to leave Reading for free at the end of this season, despite having a 12-month contract extension last year (2024).
Craig has a single Scotland Under-
He has made 70 appearances in all competitions for Reading, who lost manager Ruben Selles to Hull City last month, and has 21 caps to his name.
With the Royals now in ninth place in League One and only one point off of a play-off spot, Selles was replaced by Noel Hunt.
Stevenage is currently 13 points above the relegation zone and in 15th place in the third division.
