“Deal is done…” 15-goal star eyed by Sheffield United, Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday set for transfer

Following his admission that “I can say the deal is done,” Hull City owner Acun Ilicali has hinted that Louie Barry, the 15-goal prodigy who was coveted by both Sheffield United and their city rivals on Wednesday during this transfer window, is getting closer to joining the Championship. The 21-year-old Barry, who is on loan at Stockport County, grabbed attention with an incredible start to the current season.

In addition to Leeds United, United considered Barry as a player who could play off the left and cover up front. In order to meet that profile, United signed Ben Brereton Diaz, while Wednesday hasn’t recruited anyone to their roster this month other from midfielder Shea Charles returning to Hillsborough after Southampton temporarily recalled him.

This week, Barry had a physical at Hull before being switched for the second half of the season. Ilicali told Sky Sports News: “It is very close.” He will be in training with us tomorrow. I can declare the agreement completed. Ruben Selles’ team still has games against United’s promotion rivals Burnley and Sunderland before the season ends, so even if the deal goes as planned, United won’t have to face their former target, but he could still have an impact on the race for promotion.
