
Birmingham city centre fire live as five hospitalised after ‘arson incident’
Five people were hospitalized after a fire in Birmingham’s downtown left a guy under arrest on suspicion of arson. A fire tore through apartments in Islington Row Middleway this morning, prompting the closure of a portion of the area. Responding to the scene were officers from the West Midlands Fire Service and West Midlands Police. Five persons were taken to the hospital, including a man who was detained on suspicion of arson.
At the rear of a block of apartments, a fire engine was parked in an archway that led onto a parking lot. A pizza van identified as belonging to the company was placed inside the restricted area, which was erected around the former Laghi’s Deli Italian restaurant, which is located close to Five Ways Island. “We were called following a fire at a flat in Islington Row, Birmingham, just after 5.20am today (14 January),” stated a representative for West Midlands Police.On suspicion of arson, a guy has been taken into custody. He is being evaluated at the hospital and will be questioned later.

A representative for the West Midlands Fire Service stated: “We arrived at Islington Row Middleway in the Edgbaston neighborhood of Birmingham just after 5:15 a.m. Firefighters from Highgate, Ladywood, Handsworth, and Aston fire stations arrived with four fire engines and a 4×4 brigade response vehicle.After being mobilized, the first team was on the scene in three minutes. This was a bedroom fire in a second-floor apartment in a four-story mixed-use structure that was mostly occupied by apartments.
“The fire, which had produced significant smoke buildup in the apartment, was put out by firefighters donning breathing apparatus. The original room was the only area where the fire was contained.One individual was pulled from a stairwell by firefighters. It is thought that three males and one woman were sent to Midland Metro Hospital to receive treatment for smoke inhalation. To make sure there were no more injuries or fire spread, a thorough search of all nearby apartments was conducted. “We only have one fire engine left after reducing our resources for this situation.
