“An absolute failure” – Blackburn Rovers transfer situation questioned as Feb 3rd looms

This season, Blackburn Rovers will compete for a Championship play-off spot.

John Eustace is looking to lead the squad to a top six finish in the second division for the first time since being relegated from the Premier League in 2012.

However, the club’s January transfer window has been rather quiet, with only two new signings arriving to boost their play-off prospects.

Dion Sanderson has arrived on loan from Birmingham City, reuniting with the manager, while Adam Forshaw has also signed on a short-term contract.

Blackburn’s January transfer business criticised

One of FLW’s Blackburn fan pundits, Simon Middlehurst, described the club’s January results as underwhelming.

He believes the story is the same as in previous winter markets, with the club failing to do enough to support the manager.

Middlehurst told Football League World that Blackburn’s January window is often unsatisfactory.

“It’s been rather disappointing thus far.

“We’ve signed Adam Forshaw and Dion Sanderson to short-term contracts until the conclusion of the season.

“Great additions, I suppose, defensively and in midfield, but we’ve got an injury crisis at Blackburn right now, with 11 first team players out. We’re relying heavily on the youth academy to sit on the bench, and we need players in.”

“If we want to advance, we need players.

“Every January, it’s the same in Blackburn.

“The managers are clearly being assured that they would be supported, but at this time of year, it is an unmitigated failure.

“This is disappointing.

“We’ve had problems in the past where people didn’t even press the transmit, save, or transfer button.

“It’s really unfortunate every year; January is the busiest time of year in terms of the number of games played, and we simply don’t have the squad.

“We need players in, it happens every year and it just never happens, it’s been dreadful again.”

Rovers are currently sixth in the Championship, two points outside the play-offs.

Lack of January moves would be a waste for Blackburn

Rovers are right in the fight for a play-off spot this season, so they should make the most of this opportunity to enhance the team.

Eustace is doing excellent job at Ewood Park and has earned the opportunity to be backed in the transfer market.

However, there hasn’t been much activity surrounding the team in recent weeks, and the window might simply close quietly.

If the club narrowly misses out on a top-six finish again this season, that decision may be one they regret at the end.
