When Reading FC plays Bolton Wanderers on February 1, players will be wearing shirts with the insignia of the UK charity Bedder.

Since 2021, Select Car Leasing, based in Reading, has been the football team’s main sponsor; the stadium and club uniforms bear the company’s emblem.

However, in a unique move, the company has chosen to use a different logo on shirts to highlight the work of Beder, a charity that promotes mental health and suicide prevention and was established in 2019 by Razzak Mirjan and his family in the wake of the death of Razzak’s brother Beder Mirjan, who committed suicide in 2017 at the age of 18.

Select Car Leasing’s founder and CEO, Mark Tongue, says he seized the opportunity to support Beder.

“Football unites followers from various backgrounds with a common feeling of identification and belonging, bringing them together. Putting Beder’s name and logo on the front of a team shirt is a great way to raise awareness of one of the top charities in the UK for mental health and suicide prevention.

“This is a topic close to my own heart because, personally, my own family has been touched by the loss of a loved one through suicide. When we learned about the charity’s goals and objectives, we jumped at the chance to put Beder in the spotlight at the Select Car Leasing stadium for this special, one-off occasion.” Razzak continued: “We are incredibly grateful to Select Car Leasing for providing us with this unique opportunity and we can’t wait to see the Reading FC players wearing our one-off Beder shirts.” “The idea is simple. We hope that by seeing the Beder logo on the players’ chests it sparks enough curiosity from supporters that they Google our name and find out what we do.”

“It’s about kick-starting new conversations about mental health and suicide prevention and making more people feel comfortable about opening-up.”

One of Beder’s main advantages is its ability to provide six complimentary 50-minute online therapy sessions through its partner Mindler to anyone who applies for Beder Therapy Vouchers.

More than 500 online sessions have already been conducted since mid-2023, and Beder Therapy Vouchers are open to all UK residents who are 18 years of age or older, regardless of gender.

In addition to being featured on the front of shirts, Beder will be present at the Reading FC Fan Zone during the home game against Bolton Wanderers at the Select Car Leasing stadium.
