According to reports, Mooted Sunderland target Evan Ferguson is “expected” to leave Brighton and Hove Albion on loan before the end of the January transfer season.
The 20-year-old striker is regarded as one of the most exciting young attacking prospects in the Premier League, but has struggled for consistent game time this season, with only 220 minutes of top division action thus far. Ferguson has been linked with a temporary departure from the Amex Stadium, with supporters including Sunderland. Reports stretch back to December. Other potential suitors are Leeds United and Celtic.
According to trade guru Fabrizio Romano, Ferguson is expected to leave Brighton in the coming week. Senior figures at Brighton have already attempted to downplay the prospect of Ferguson leaving the club this month. In a news conference around the turn of the year, Albion manager Fabian Hurzeler said: “I don’t know where this information [rumours of Ferguson’s departure] comes from because I told Evan that I am glad he is here with the team.” I’m pleased with how he’s training and how physically and intellectually fit he is. Of course, he’s a young player who needs playing time.”
The German also stated that it is acceptable for players to be sad if they are not selected to start, but Ferguson must retain a positive attitude. He went on to say, “Accept your job and make sure you are in the right mindset and form so that when the opportunity arises, you are prepared.
