Offers for Reading teen ‘yet to meet our valuation’ says boss amid Southampton report

Reading manager Noel Hunt has stated that Southampton are interested in signing teenager Andre Garcia, although the fee has yet to be determined.

The 17-year-old has drawn attention since breaking into the first-team over the summer, making nearly 30 appearances in his debut year as a professional.

With less than a week left in the transfer season, many expected the club to have lost key players by now, but the manager said on Thursday that no official bids had been received.

However, allegations arose on Friday that the Saints, currently at the bottom of the Premier League, had a proposal rejected by the Royals and were putting together a second package worth up to £2 million.

Speaking after Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Leyton Orient, the Royals manager admitted that the package was not as appealing as previously suggested, and the valuation had yet to be met.

“I chatted with Brian [Carey]. “There’s a lot more to that [£2 million] offer,” he explained. “The beginning start is a major influence. Do not believe everything you read. There were a handful of calls, and there is something behind them, but nothing that we believe is the valuation that Andre deserves.”
