After new negotiations with an MLS team, Newcastle United is getting closer to selling Miguel Almiron.
The possibility that he will leave this week is growing, according to Chronicle Live, who understands that talks between the Magpies and the Major League Soccer team are “progressing” and that Almiron would like to return to the team he signed with in 2019 if personal terms are favorable.
Almiron’s departure would increase the likelihood of incoming business in the summer, though Eddie Howe has consistently stated that he does not anticipate any incoming signings during the winter window.
Paul Mitchell, the director of Sporting, has been working on Almiron’s departure and has discussed the potential advantages of the transfer with the backroom personnel. The wide man’s medical has been scheduled, with a portion of the procedure occurring in the UK.
Almiron essentially bid Southampton’s supporters farewell over the weekend, but negotiations were still ongoing Monday morning. Newcastle is undoubtedly amenable to the deal, which could bring in about £10 million this window. Considering that United would recover nearly half of the money they spent on Almiron six years ago, this would be considered good business.
Given that Almiron will turn 31 next month and hasn’t performed well this season, Newcastle is selling the star at a good time. Howe spoke about pushing Almiron in front of the 3,000 away fans at the weekend, saying: “It was just the crowd were very much embracing him and giving him a lot of love.”
“And I just felt it was you know, Miggy’s not that kind of character that’s got a huge ego that absorbs all the attention. But I just felt it was imperative that we got him to the front.”
Everyone agreed that he has been incredible for us, both in terms of his attitude, his dedication, and his play. I’m not saying it’s a farewell; we don’t know what’s going to happen.
But since Saturday, things have changed, and if the MLS team complies with the terms and circumstances, Almiron’s departure appears to be imminent for the Magpies.
