Newcastle chief now watching three Brentford stars?
Steve Nickson, Newcastle United’s head of recruitment, has been connected to scouting missions to witness Bryan Mbeumo and Sepp van den Berg of Brentford during the last two weeks.
However, after been observed during their 2-2 draw with Man City earlier this month, sources now indicate that our chief scout is keeping an eye on a third Bees player.
Nickson was in the stands to see Lille’s Jonathan David and Hakon Arnar Haraldsson during a midweek trip to Anfield last week, according to Craig Hope.
Newcastle keeping tabs on £16m Brentford man
Bryan Mbeumo and versatile wide player Keane Lewis-Potter are being watched, according to Craig Hope of The Mail.
Although the West London team appears to be planning to cling onto its star player through January, a summer transfer for the Cameroonian is still very much possible because he has 18 months left on his present contract.
Lewis-Potter, 23, has established himself as a mainstay in Thomas Frank’s squad after joining from Hull in 2022 for £16 million, despite his early struggles to establish himself in the starting lineup.
Lewis.Any team would be drawn to Potter’s versatility because he can play as a left-back, wing-back, or winger. However, he only recently signed a new contract this month that will keep him until 2031, so it doesn’t look like
Where would he fit?
Though it’s unclear with Lewis-Potter, it’s clear where Mbeumo would go into our lineup if we made a summer move for the right-winger.
We don’t use wing-backs in a five-man defence like Brentford does, and Lewis Hall, who is soon to establish himself as a regular for England, plays left-back.
Anthony Gordon appears to have the left flank berth locked down, with Harvey Barnes, a £38 million acquisition, sitting in reserve and unlikely to see many starts as our No. 10 remains healthy.
