Jota’s deal from Ligue 1 side Rennes could be completed on Monday.
Celtic might conclude Jota’s £9 million return on Monday. The Portuguese winger is set to return to Parkhead after leaving for Saudi Arabia only 18 months ago. Jota returned to Glasgow on Saturday to finalise discussions for a four-and-a-half-year contract. Manager Brendan Rodgers announced on Friday that he believed the trade would be completed within 24 hours. However, with no confirmation on Sunday, Celtic could make their statement on Monday.
Kyogo Furuhashi’s transfer to Rennes has yet to be announced by the French club. The Japanese travelled to France four days ago to finalise the details of his transfer and undergo a medical examination. Rodgers is aggressively looking for a new striker to replace Kyogo, and he has a number of options, including Danish striker Mathias Kvistgaarden of Brondby.
Jota’s prospective return has piqued the interest of fans who were disappointed when he left for Al-Ittihad in a £25 million transfer. The 25-year-old’s move did not work out, and he was eventually relocated to Rennes last summer. Jota fell out of favour with manager Jorge Sampaoli, allowing Celtic to make a bid.
The Celtic manager is planning significant changes to his squad before the transfer window closes, with a deal for Kieran Tierney possibly in the works. Arsenal’s defender is out of contract at the end of the season, thus a pre-contract agreement can be made during this window.
