The winger opened Saturday afternoon’s Premier League match between the Tractor Boys and Liverpool at Anfield, where the visitors hoped to deliver a huge shock.
Even though center-back Jacob Greaves scored the game-winning goal late in the game, Ipswich was condemned to a crushing 4-1 loss on Merseyside.
In the afternoon, Cody Gakpo scored twice against Kieran McKenna’s team, while Arne Slot’s troops also scored through goals from Dominique Szoboszlai and Mohamed Salah.
Burns, 30, was substituted on the right wing for Burns after just 29 minutes, causing an early change in the match for Ipswich.

“A serious one” – McKenna provides worrying Burns update
Ipswich star Burns seemed to “pop” his knee, a motion frequently linked to an ACL injury, as he entered a challenge with Dutchman Gakpo.
At the end of the game, the Welshman was seen leaving Anfield with crutches and a knee brace on after being stretchered off the field in pain.
Asked about the injury to Burns post-match, Ipswich boss McKenna said: “Not good. It was a movement rather than an effect.
“He’s on crutches and his knee is really swollen, but we’re crossing our fingers. He is scheduled to undergo a scan. It appears to be a major one, but we hope it’s not as awful as it looks.”
During his first-ever season in the Premier League, Burns has made 18 appearances for the Tractor Boys, providing an assist for Omari Hutchinson‘s goal during the draw with Manchester United in November.
Burns is anticipated to miss the rest of the 2024–25 season due to an ACL injury, which would prevent him from playing in 15 Premier League games.
The 30-year-old might not be able to heal in time for the start of the following season, which could see the Tractor Boys returning to the Championship.
In the Premier League standings, McKenna’s team is now in 19th place, one point behind Leicester City, who are comfortably in 17th place.
