Graham Alexander urges Bradford not to get carried away after beating Walsall
After Bradford easily defeated League Two leaders Walsall 3-0, Graham Alexander thinks the team shouldn’t get
ahead of itself.
After Antoni Sarcevic scored the first goal, Alex Pattison added two more to cut short Walsall’s 16-game league
winning streak.
Alexander, manager of Bradford, stated: “It’s a good win and a strong win in terms of playing the team at the top of
the table and the incredible run they’ve been on.”
However, based on my players, I believe we attacked it in the same way we did against the worst team last Saturday.
“Regardless of who we’re playing, I find it more satisfying to see that the players are engaged and willing to compete.
We must continue to be consistent in this way. We must put in extra effort to maintain that since that is where the outcomes are shown.
“We must always avoid getting ahead of ourselves. However, we have players with reliable mentality.
“Our experience and wisdom bring players back into the group immediately when they are deviating from the norm.
There are athletes that have persevered through numerous games. We made an effort to recruit them because of this.
“We remained together during the challenging eight or nine games, and we were very difficult to beat.”
Sarcevic shot the first into the top corner of Brad Halliday, although Bradford had already struck the post.
Pattison then gave Bradford a two-goal lead at halftime with a low strike that went under the diving Tommy Simkin.
Pattison scored his second soon after the break with a superb solo effort running from the halfway line.
Walsall’s hopes of pulling one back were then denied by Sam Walker’s penalty save from Danny Johnson after Jack
Shepherd brought down Ethan Wheatley.
Walsall manager Mat Sadler said: “They are a big, strong team and showed a lot of that today. They probably did to
us what we’ve done to a lot of teams.
“They got the better of us and took their chances when they came. We kept going, kept fighting and moving even
though it wasn’t our day and kept trying to get ourselves back into the game.
“But when the moments came, we didn’t quite take them. Credit to Bradford who put us under pressure.
“It’s another one to learn from and we’ll continue to move forward again.”
