Chelsea given huge Liam Delap transfer boost as Enzo Maresca eyes Nicolas Jackson replacement.

Liam Delap has established himself as one of the most exciting young strikers in the Premier League this season

Chelsea appear to have made significant headway in their pursuit of Liam Delap from Ipswich Town. This month, the 21-year-old striker has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge as manager Enzo Maresca seeks to improve his frontline.

Delap, whose contract at Portman Road expires in June 2029, has already made 22 Premier League appearances this season, scoring eight goals and contributing two assists. Kieran McKenna’s key player has given the promoted team a chance of survival.

The England Under-21 international’s remarkable achievements have not gone unnoticed, with a number of big teams, including Chelsea, interested in signing him.Football.london reports that the west London squad has long admired Delap, who joined Ipswich from Manchester City in the summer for £20 million.

The Englishman’s departure from Suffolk this month may be challenging because to the Tractor Boys’ current relegation battle and the high cost. According to GiveMeSport columnist Ben Jacobs, Chelsea are interested in signing Delap.

However, the source indicates that an agreement may have to wait until the summer. Although this is a significant boost for the Blues, Enzo Maresca may need to wait longer for a new frontman.

Shortly before the January transfer market opened, Delap was questioned about his future at Ipswich and the rumors linking him with a move elsewhere. In an interview with Suffolk News, he stated, “I don’t look at things that way.” So, absolutely, I’m solely focused on Ipswich.”

Delap continued, “As a young athlete, you just want to go and play football. We’re fortunate to be playing in the Premier League. I think we have a tremendous opportunity here at Ipswich, and we’re simply trying to show our abilities week in and week out, which is a big bonus for me.”

Maresca, who coached Delap in Manchester City’s youth, reconnected with him when Ipswich defeated Chelsea 2-0 at Portman Road. Speaking to reporters ahead of the game, the Blues manager stated: “Liam is a wonderful player, especially considering his age.

“I believe we spent a year together, and he scored 22-24 goals. He’s a really talented striker. In England, there are many players like him, including good strikers, and he works hard off the ball, knows the game, and can score goals. And due of his age, I believe he may be a significant player for England.”
