Championship rivals set to seal loan deal for star heavily-linked with Middlesbrough

Louie Barry is likely to join Championship rivals Hull City after being linked to Middlesbrough earlier this month.

The youthful Aston Villa forward was linked with Boro after his 18-month loan at League One play-off contenders Stockport County expired earlier this month. Villa invoked their recall clause in the hopes of putting him to the test in the Championship in the second half of the season, after he scored 15 goals in the first.

Though Barry is a player Boro has followed, he was never expected to be a target this month as Boro focused on other parts of the squad. Boro reinforced on the opposite wing this month, signing Morgan Whittaker from Plymouth Argyle last month.

Barry was connected to a number of Championship clubs, and it now appears that the 21-year-old will have a physical with Hull City, according to BBC Humberside. Villa’s decision to recall Barry from his loan at Stockport left a space in their squad, which they covered by signing Micah Hamilton on loan from Boro.
The Manchester City academy graduate joined Boro in the summer but, due to a lack of first-team experience, is yet to make an impact on Teesside. Hamilton has joined County in the hopes of gaining more experience and regaining confidence, with the intention of returning in the summer to compete for more playing time at Boro next season.
