Sky Sports: West Bromwich Albion 5-0 Portsmouth: Ruthless Baggies thump five past Pompey.
Report and free match highlights from Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship match between West Bromwich Albion and Portsmouth at The Hawthorns; Tony Mowbray’s Baggies win with goals from Alex Mowatt, Grady Diangana twice, Jed Wallace, and John Swift. Grady Diangana scored twice as Tony Mowbray made a triumphant return to West Brom with a 5-1 Sky Bet Championship win against Portsmouth at The Hawthorns. Goalkeeper Nicolas Schmid had a nightmarish game. Portsmouth’s Schmid set up goals for Alex Mowatt and Diangana, before former Pompey winger Jed Wallace and Diangana made it 4-0 before halftime.
In Albion’s joint-biggest win since a 7-1 triumph against QPR in August 2018, John Swift scored the fifth in the 56th minute, while substitute Thomas Waddingham added a late debut consolation. Diangana, who is out of contract for the summer, also assisted Mowatt and Wallace.
The 61-year-old’s first game back as manager ended in defeat, when Albion fell 2-0 at his former club Middlesbrough on Tuesday, but he will be hoping Albion can continue in this vein with a return to the free-flowing football of his first term with a first win in five. Portsmouth head coach John Mousinho’s decision to rest five players after Wednesday’s 3-1 triumph over Stoke backfired as they chased their third straight victory, falling to their seventh consecutive away defeat.
