Middlesbrough were handed fresh injury problems after Emmanuel Latte Lath was forced off in the first half during defeat at Preston North End.
Michael Carrick believes that Emmanuel Latte Lath’s groin injury sustained during Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Preston North End will not keep him out for an extended period of time.
However, the 43-year-old revealed that Seny Dieng will be sidelined for an extended length of time as he recovers from Achilles surgery.
Carrick did not rule out further movement in the transfer window, after Ryan Giles, Morgan Whittaker, and George Edmundson left, with an addition between the sticks a possibility following Dieng’s injury.
Latte Lath was pulled off after 11 minutes at Deepdale after attempting to capitalise on a defensive error by the Lilywhites. Carrick declined to comment on the seriousness of the situation, but expressed hope that it would not be a long-term issue.
“He felt his groin, how badly and to what extent, I’m not sure,” added the Boro manager. “We’ll have to wait and see,” he said, feeling his groin right away.
“That was a blow for us, but I thought we dealt with that well – moved on from it – still felt we should’ve won that game, it’s a blow, we’ll have to see how Manu – hopefully it’s not too long.”
The Boro manager intimated that Tommy Conway’s return may take some time, as the 22-year-old is yet to return to first-team training. He responded, “We’ll have to wait and see. He’s close, but he’s been out for a while, so we’ll have to make a choice. He has not trained with us yet.
Tom Glover stayed in goal for Boro, but Dieng provided a grim update on Friday night, posting on Instagram from a hospital bed after surgery. Sol Brynn is still out of action after dislocating his shoulder in a December match with Sheffield Wednesday.
As a result, Carrick revealed that reinforcements in the goalkeeping department will be considered: “We have Tom who has done well, and we had Shea on the bench, so it’s definitely something we need to look at.”
With Latte Lath’s future uncertain and three arrivals at Riverside Stadium this week, another departure is possible as deadline day approaches. The Boro manager confirmed that Lukas Engel is currently in the United States, preparing to join FC Cincinnati.
“Lukas is there at this moment, so that’s looking like it will go through,” stated the politician.
