Kieran McKenna opted to dwell on the positives after his struggling Ipswich Town team were well thrashed by
Liverpool. The Reds won 4-1 in the Premier League at Anfield on Saturday afternoon thanks to goals from
Dominik Szoboszlai, Mohamed Salah, and Cody Gakpo.
Liverpool should have won by more before letting up in the closing minutes, which allowed Jacob Greaves to head
in a late consolation for the visitors. With one game left, Liverpool leads the league by six points.
He remarked, “It was a challenging game, and it was frustrating to be in that position at halftime.”
It was comparable to previous week in certain ways. The first half had some favorable aspects. were under a lot of
strain, and we had a strong start to the game.
“We were a goal and then a few goals behind, but there wasn’t a lot of pressure. We didn’t protect the box
effectively enough, and Liverpool did a good job.
It was a challenging situation in terms of game management, particularly after last week. There were a lot of
positives from the second half, in my opinion.
“In the early going, we remained cohesive, managed the game effectively, demonstrated a few moves and passages,
and came out on top. We regained a goal and had the opportunity for another as the substitutes came on and had
an impact.
McKenna added: “It’s a difficult game on top of a difficult game last week. We have made some mistakes we can
learn from. But I feel like it’s one where if we take the lessons in the right way we can be stronger for it given how
we finished.
“The fans were fantastic. They were incredible. They appreciate the challenge and the size of the jump but they
were incredible and I’m delighted we could give them a goal at the end.”
Wes Burns, a midfielder, appeared to have suffered a major knee injury while challenging Gakpo, and he was taken
off the pitch on a stretcher, causing Ipswich to lose the first half.
“It’s not good,” McKenna remarked. We’re crossing our fingers, but he’s on crutches, wearing a knee brace, and
getting a scan. We’re hoping it’s not as horrible as it appears.
McKenna also stated, “He was sick this week,” after left-back Leif Davis did not show up for the second half. He
wanted to try, but he felt ill during the game and at halftime.
