I watched Dundee United vs Rangers – here are 4 Ibrox transfer decisions that must be made

In a thrilling end-to-end Scottish Premiership match at Tannadice, Rangers overcame a goal behind to upset Dundee United 3-1 and earn their first away win in seven tries.

Sam Dalby gave Tayside the lead in the 19th minute with his 11th goal of the season, but Philippe Clement’s team ultimately pulled even before halftime with a long-range effort from the returning Mohamed Diomande.

That gave the visitors a huge boost going into the second half, and four minutes after the resumption, center-back Robin Propper changed the course of the match by sending a deflected attempt past Tangerines goalkeeper Jack Walton.

Rangers had more chances to increase their lead a few times, but they were unable to terminate the match once more, while United’s two attempts to equalize were thwarted by the woodwork.

The 86th minute, however, saw the Nigerian striker latch onto substitute Zak Lovelace’s deft pass and fire high across Walton into the top corner of the net, leaving Old Trafford goal scorer Cyriel Dessers, whose earlier goal was disallowed for offside, to finish all three minutes.

The Belgian manager would have been equally incensed by the contentious nature of Diomande’s straight red card in extra time after a confrontation with Kevin Holt as he will have been by the amount of time it took his team to secure the points. To the dismay of the Gers bench, referee Nick Walsh stuck to his original on-field ruling after being called across the pitchside monitor to assess the incident.

Rangers had their first away victory of 2025 and were now within 10 points of league leaders Celtic, despite having played one more game after the Hoops’ match against Dundee was postponed on Saturday owing to Storm Eowyn-caused stadium damage.

At Tannadice, I watched the match play out. Between now and the end of the January transfer window, Rangers need to decide on these four transfers.
