TBR Football understands that Ipswich Town have enquired about Sheffield United’s Scottish youth star Ryan One and could make a move for him this month, although Tottenham Hotspur have also had the forward watched.
Sheffield United have recently signed Ben Brereton-Diaz and Tom Cannon, so One is set to drop down the pecking order at Bramall Lane.
Tottenham have a working relationship with the Blades, having signed teenage striker Will Lankshear from the club.
One was signed by United in 2023 from Scottish club Hamilton Academical, and he has been in and around the first-team squad this season, appearing in a dozen matches.
However, his impact at the first-team level is attracting admiring eyes from Spurs and others.
Ryan One in demand as Tottenham scout Sheffield United striker
TBR Football’s chief correspondent, Graeme Bailey, can confirm that interest in One is increasing. Brighton, who tried to sign the youngster before he came to Bramall Lane, is once again keeping an eye on him, while Brentford and Tottenham have also been watching him in recent months.
Liverpool, like Brighton, have long been interested in the teenage striker.
Ipswich want to improve their striking options this month and are understood to be leading the chase, while they are willing to let Ali Al-Hamadi leave the club. They’ve also inquired about Emmanuel Latte Lath and Haji Wright, but only one of them may be brought in.
TBR can also confirm that Red Bull’s scouts have watched One on behalf of Leipzig and Salzburg, and they have made contact, but the most intriguing interest is coming from France and Italy, with Monaco and Juventus also showing interest.
Despite the fact that Sheffield United signed Cannon and Brereton-Diaz this week, sources say the club is not trying to sell One.
What Chris Wilder has said about Ryan One
Sheffield United is well-known in England for developing talented young players, but Ryan One was brought in from afar.
Still, Chris Wilder applauded the club’s staff for noticing One’s signing and felt it was something that needed to be highlighted.
“It’s a wonderful spot by (then-head of recruitment) Paul Mitchell, and the board deserves credit for spending a few dollars on a real unknown guy. “It’s critical that we develop players through our academy,” Wilder said of One’s signing.
“That’s something I’ve been delighted with, the young players coming in, the way we’ve changed our style as well.”
The youngster’s readiness for the Premier League remains to be seen.
