Southampton have made a bid of £2 million for Reading teenager Andre Garcia, according to sources.
The 17-year-old has two assists in 24 games this season, after moving up from the Under-18s and skipping the Under-21s over the summer.
The teenager, who is predominantly a left-back but can also play as a winger, has been linked with a move to a number of prominent teams in recent months, including Tottenham Hotspur and Borussia Dortmund.
However, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Premier League bottom team Southampton has offered the Royals a £2 million package after their original bid was rejected.
The Saints are now sitting in the top tier with only six points from 22 games, ten points from safety.
Reading are unable to engage in the transfer market because they are still under embargo for a number of misdemeanours, but manager Noel Hunt has promised that no player will leave the club this month.
The window closes on February 3 at 11 p.m., with the Royals still battling for a play-off position in May amid ongoing off-field turmoil.
Hunt told the media yesterday that no official offers had been made for players as of yet.
“We’ve had no phone calls,” he stated. “I spoke with Bri [Brian Carey] yesterday, and nothing has changed,” Hunt told reporters ahead of Saturday’s trip to Leyton Orient. “It’s relatively calm on that front, which is ideal for us. There are 11 days remaining, so we are counting down. The boys have been fantastic. They work so well together, and I believe they understand we have a wonderful thing going. When we get these guys up and running and completely fit to support the squad and the entire group, it’s only a plus.
“You can never say never because we learnt that last year, but as far as I know, Gilksey and Bri have been left with the task at hand, and it is critical that we stay on that page and keep everyone here as best we can. It is really significant for the football club, the fans, and everyone. We have wonderful men in the locker room with great personalities, and we don’t want to lose anyone.
