Coventry City transfer news from CoventryLive: Frank Lampard addresses speculation linking the Sky Blues with non-league high flyers.
Frank Lampard acknowledges that Coventry City are looking to strengthen their development group in order to bridge the gap with their first team.
The Sky Blues are interested in left-winger Charlie Warren from non-league Felixstowe and Walton United, along with several Championship clubs.
The 20-year-old has scored 26 goals and supplied multiple assists for the leaders of the Isthmian League North Division, which has supposedly piqued the interest of City’s scouting network, as well as League One clubs Wycombe Wanderers and Lincoln, to mention a few.
Coventry, along with Norwich, Swansea, and Peterborough, are reportedly interested in 18-year-old non-league prodigy Joe Andrews. The Wales Under-19 International is a 6’2″ central midfielder who now plays for Chippenham in the National League South after being released by Southampton last summer.
When asked about City’s links to non-league players and whether they are actively looking to strengthen the development squad with the goal of progressing to the first team, Lampard said: “Yeah, and I don’t know who those people are because I don’t read all the papers. But I think the easiest way to explain it is that we have a recruitment staff managed by Dean (Austin) that is constantly seeking for players for first-team growth, and my role is to look at the team every day.
“So I don’t always have access to those chats until a certain time. But, of course, we’re eager to bring in players who can improve the development squad and potentially join us in the future. It’s all good, and that must be a constant.”
