Beddington knife attacker was floored with a fire extinguisher

Have-a-go hero tells of how he managed to halt warehouse knife attacker: ‘I  hit him with a fire extinguisher, which sort of calmed everything down’

More information has surfaced following yesterday’s frenzied “horror stabbing” in commercial premises on the Beddington trade estate.

The Met Police described the incident as a “Croydon warehouse stabbing” that occurred in an Argos despatch hub. One man was detained, and five persons, including a man in his fifties, two men in his thirties, and two men in their twenties, required hospital treatment.

Although the London air ambulance was dispatched, “Their conditions were assessed as not life-threatening,” a Met spokesperson stated of the injured.

At 10.15 a.m. yesterday, police and emergency services were dispatched to a warehouse on Marlowe Way in Beddington following reports of a stabbing.

“A 30-year-old man was arrested nearby on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and possessing an offensive weapon.” “He was also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries,” the Met said.

The attacker’s injuries are thought to have been caused by being repeatedly hit with a fire extinguisher, while one of those being assaulted fought back to protect their coworkers from further harm.

Chief Superintendent Andy Brittain, south London’s local policing commander, said officers responded immediately and detained the suspect within an hour. An investigation is now underway.

“Based on preliminary inquiries, we believe all parties involved knew each other. As a result, we do not believe there is a greater risk to the public.

One of those who spearheaded the fightback was 29-year-old Joseph Denton, who was questioned by TV news reporters while driving home from work after an extraordinary day.

Denton was able to reveal his injury to the cameras while wearing a bandage around his little finger, alleging that the knifeman had “sliced my finger open”.

Denton recounted, “I was there for an audit and the company basically started shouting and saying: ‘He’s back.'”He didn’t say anything. He was trying to murder me, and I had never seen him before.”

Denton, of Raleigh, Essex, said the man was armed with a huge knife with a serrated edge, referring to it as a “Rambo knife”.

He stated, “He stabbed two individuals in the chest, and one had a large cut in his arm. I believe someone is on the side as well.

“I tried to lock the door, but when I couldn’t, I had to approach him and basically fight him.

“I got him on the floor and decided to strike him with a fire extinguisher, which helped to settle things down.

“Then people poured in since he was on the floor, and we just kept hitting him until he fled.

“I didn’t have much of a choice, to be honest. He was approaching via one door. So, there was nowhere else to go, so I had to approach him.

“He had his thing just stabbing at me like a serial killer.”
