Reading FC soon-to-be new owner meets club legend during win
Speaking with the renowned Sir John Madejski, Rob Couhig, the soon-to-be new owner of Reading, has already
accomplished one goal that Dai Yongge was unable to accomplish during his seven years as the club’s owner.
The Royals defeated Wigan Athletic 2-0 on Saturday, and Couhig and company, who are set to finish taking over the
team this week, attended the game.
Supporters even got the opportunity to speak with the former Wycombe Wanderers manager over the railings in his
box, demonstrating their unsubtle approach as a cameraman was always on the 75-year-old and taking official
photos on the field before the game.
Fans, however, filmed a particularly poignant moment in 2024 when Sir John Madejski, who had saved the club
from the verge in 1990 before starting a magnificent 27-year tenure at the head, embraced the man who had come so
near to saving the Royals.
After taking control in 2017, Yongge famously failed to contact Madejski and only briefly crossed paths with him
during the team’s loss to Huddersfield Town in the play-off final at Wembley.
By the time the Royals are next in action, travelling to Wrexham on Saturday, the club are expected to be in new
hands, much to the relief of all connected to the club.
