Mark Ogren rules out Dundee United sale but admits club could follow in the footsteps of Hibs and Hearts
Despite being receptive to potential new investment, Mark Ogren has stated that Dundee United is not for sale.
Over his six-year tenure at the Tannadice club, the American businessman has invested close to £13 million. It has been quite the expensive rollercoaster, with them rising from the Championship to Europe before being demoted, then winning promotion once more, and now solidly reestablishing themselves in the Premiership under Jim Goodwin. “We are not for sale,” Ogren declared. We don’t have a broker out there attempting to sell us, and we’re not posted for sale.
The businessman continues to fund United despite fans’ expectations that he would try to cut and flee to minimize his losses. The club’s expenses have been drastically reduced and are now on the verge of breaking even, all thanks to the diligent efforts of chief executive Luigi Capuano. United has discussed possible collaborations with Brentford and Brighton, while Danish billionaire Anders Holch Povlsen has also been connected to a potential investment.
Ogren acknowledged that during his tenure as head, there has been a lot of attention. “There have been a lot of conversations with people who are interested in investing,” he continued. Really, that has been going on since day one; people have asked us if we would be willing to invest or sell a stake.
“We have spoken with some who have expressed interest, but nothing is currently in the works. We have spoken to a number of people, however I don’t want to mention any names. Am I amenable to that? Under specific circumstances, the answer might be yes.
With more English clubs looking across the border, Brighton and Brentford have both considered possible collaborations. Ogren acknowledged that the current game is changing in a way that
“It would be natural because that’s the way some of these clubs are going,” the United manager stated. “There is nothing in the works in that regard, but that would be a situation that could arise.”
Dundee United and Ogren are not going anywhere. John Nelms, the chief executive of Dundee, has once more placed a potential groundshare at their proposed new stadium on the table.
At yesterday’s AGM, Ogren stated: “One of the things I want to do is start a Tannadice fund to ring fence investment in the stadium.” United has rejected that as unimportant. for large-scale initiatives.
