Cardiff City: Omer Riza reacts to Ollie Tanner transfer talk involving Leicester City and Southampton

Cardiff City manager Omer Riza has knocked down speculations connecting Ollie Tanner to a departure from the Welsh capital, with sources having identified Premier League duo Leicester City and Southampton, along with two Championship opponents in Burnley and Leeds United, as suitors for the winger’s signing.

The Bluebirds intend to sanction both incoming and leaving transactions before the winter window closes on February 3.

Thus far, Riza has added only one new face to his squad: towering attacker Yousef Salech, who opened his account for the club in dramatic manner during Tuesday evening’s 2-2 draw at Millwall after joining from Sirius in a deal worth more than £3 million.

Riza plans to add two or three players before the window closes. Jamilu Collins, Kion Etete, and Yakou Meite are among those who could leave the Cardiff City Stadium. However, Tanner is not expected to leave, despite reports of interest.

Football Insider reported on Thursday afternoon that Leeds, Leicester, Southampton, and Burnley were all interested in Tanner and were setting up prospective moves for the 22-year-old.

Tanner is now in his third season with Cardiff, having joined from non-league club Lewes in the summer of 2022, and has steadily progressed to a first-team regular.

Riza dismissed rumours linking Tanner to a move to Cardiff, stating that the young wide-man has impressed this season and is under contract until 2027.
