The London Fire Brigade reported that ten fire engines and approximately 70 firemen were rushed to the site in Rosaville Road, when a mid-terraced home caught fire.
Dozens of firefighters are fighting a massive fire on a residential street in west London. Bright orange flames and smoke were seen rising from a property on Rosaville Road this evening, shortly after 8.20pm.
The London Fire Brigade stated that the first floor and roof of a mid-terraced building were on fire. However, it is known that no one was inside at the time. Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters were summoned.
LFB’s 999 control officers have taken 29 calls to the blaze.
Firefighters from Wimbledon, Brixton, Park Royal, Peckham, Wandsworth, and adjacent stations are on the scene.
Don Cochrane, who posted a video, added: “Yes, everything was fine; the house was being renovated.” It comes after a three-story warehouse near Brixton Market caught fire earlier tonight, prompting the arrival of 100 firemen to the scene. People are thought to have been evacuated from the area, as footage shows an inferno and a pillar of smoke rising into the sky. Firefighters are still fighting the fire on Electric Avenue, off Electric Lane.
The surrounding roads have been closed. The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers were initially called just before 9 p.m. and have received 53 calls concerning the incident. Europe is now experiencing an unusual heat wave, and many fear it may exacerbate the problem of burning.
