Outrage as Anglian Water leaves ‘unsightly scar’ on part of Northampton’s recently refurbished Market Square
This week, it was discovered that the water company had torn up a section of the recently installed paving close to Zapato Lounge and replaced it with a tarmac strip. Following an almost two-year renovation project that cost £12.5 million, the Market Square reopened in full in November.”Why is the utility not accountable for replacing like for like?” one person asked. They removed the costly cobbles, but where are they now? When will it be returned to “as was,” and who is footing the bill?
These issues were brought to the attention of West Northants Council by Chronicle and Echo. “This is a temporary tarmac fill by two utilities companies carrying out work to a nearby property which is really unsightly and ruins the look of our new Market Square,” stated Conservative Councillor Dan Lister, who is in charge of the Market Square renovation project at WNC.We have asked them to come back and fix the roadway scar as soon as possible because we don’t want it to ruin our new square. We’ve been told that they’ll be coming back to finish the job the following week.
