‘It’s a tough league’: Gabbiadini says Sunderland star doesn’t have the ‘class’ to play in the Championship

Nazariy Rusyn joined Sunderland as a very intriguing signing in 2023. It had a lot of potential, and the Black Cats were willing to invest heavily. However, the signing has been a complete failure.

In 29 Championship games for Sunderland, Nazariy Rusyn has only scored two goals and one assist.

Kristjaan Speakman has been quite disappointed with the 26-year-old. Sunderland reportedly spent £2.5 million to recruit the Ukrainian from Zorya, making him more expensive than Romaine Mundle and even Dan Ballard.

On Wednesday morning, reports indicated that Rusyn was on the verge of quitting Sunderland. Despite speculation that he will depart the Stadium of Light in January, he has declined the offer.

Rusyn rejected a loan transfer to Aberdeen for the duration of the 2024/25 season, but is still considering his options.

After Nazariy Rusyn, another Sunderland man surely moves on

Rusyn is not the only Sunderland player lacking Championship quality and in need of a move. Following Rusyn, it appears that Abdoullah Ba’s departure from Sunderland will be the Black Cats’ next priority, along with fresh arrivals.

The Frenchman is also way down the pecking order, having made only one Championship appearance this season, and only one in the Carabao Cup.

He and Rusyn appear to be the two most likely to depart Wearside before the February 3 deadline. Adil Aouchiche may have earned at least another half-season with the club.
