“Definitely a gamble” – Pundit reacts as Stoke City chase Bristol City transfer

Fally Mayulu, a striker for Bristol City, has been linked to Stoke City.

The 22-year-old merely moved to Ashton Gate in the summer, but according to the Mirror’s transfer live blog post on 22/1/25, 15:53, the Potters are considering a £2.5 million deal for the striker.

In response to the reports, Robins manager Liam Manning stated that talks are still taking on over Mayulu’s next course of action.

We asked Carlton Palmer, a former England player and commentator, what he thought of the possible transfer.

Mayulu move a gamble, says Palmer

“Stoke City and Mark Robins are looking to bring in more firepower to their strike force in the window, having lost Tom Cannon,” Palmer stated in an exclusive interview with Football League World.

“They have bid £2.5 million for Fally Mayulu, a striker for Bristol City. According to reports, Bristol City paid this amount for Fally during the summer.

“He has two goals in 14 games and hasn’t pulled up any trees.” He was not included in the previous two squads. Liam Manning, manager of Bristol City, has acknowledged that talks have taken place over allowing the striker to depart and join Stoke City.

In the summer, he moved from Rapid Vienna to Ashton Gate. In actuality, he hasn’t pulled up any trees. They have talented players.

Once more, it is up to them to determine whether letting them go is in their best interests. Nathan Lowe, who was playing well at Walsall, was called up by Stoke after Tom Cannon scored a tonne of goals for them.

Since he hasn’t pulled up any trees, I believe it’s ultimately a gamble, although Mark Robins is familiar with the guy. When he brings a player into the football club, he understands exactly what he’s doing.

Given that he is only 22 years old, there must be something that Mark Robins and Bristol City have noticed in their scouting system, as well as Bristol City itself when they brought him into the team, to indicate that there is unquestionably promise there going forward.

It will be interesting to observe, though. Although he has scored goals in the past—15 in 46 games [for FC Blau-Weiss Linz]—I believe it’s undoubtedly a chance on the player. Prior to joining Bristol City, he scored six goals in 28 games for Rapid Vienna, which is not particularly productive, but he is still only 22 years old.

If they want to push, Mark Robins is taking a risk.

Mayulu money may be funds Stoke City don’t need to spend

Palmer noted that Stoke just summoned up their own young striker, Nathan Lowe, from Walsall, where he had made 22 League Two appearances, scoring 15 goals and dishing out five assists.

Whether the Potters want to bring Lowe into the first team lineup under Robins or loan him back out has not yet been revealed.

Fally Mayulu’s career so far, as per Transfermarkt
Team Apps Goals Assists
FC Blau-Weiss Linz 46 15 13
Rapid Vienna 35 11 3
Bristol City 17 2 0
VfL Wolfsburg II 1 0 0

Lowe will not have an easy time making the big leap from the fourth division to the Championship, but Mayulu hasn’t really shown himself.

It would make sense to spend £2.5 million on a seasoned striker to fill Tom Cannon’s void, but with Mayulu, it could be wiser for the team to give Lowe an opportunity before squandering money on other young players.
