2 strikers Leeds United could sign to satisfy Daniel Farke’s newest transfer suggestion
In light of Patrick Bamford’s recent fitness issues, Leeds United manager Daniel Farke indicated last night, following the team’s victory over Norwich City, that he is considering signing a new striker this January.
Leeds leads the Championship by a significant margin and has the greatest offensive record in the league, but supporters are curious about when the team will make an offensive acquisition.
Farke’s formation would benefit from the addition of either an attacking midfielder or a striker, since Leeds is currently without alternatives to his reliable Norwich City attackers Teemu Pukki and Emi Buendia.
Daniel Farke teases Leeds attempts for striker signing looming
After defeating his old team, Norwich City, on Wednesday night, Farke stated that he only has two senior striker alternatives because Patrick Bamford’s injury is expected to keep him out for another two weeks.
To compensate for their lack of depth, the German indicated that he might be thinking about bringing in a new striker, according to Adam Pope:
“We remain alert in the market, but we are not in a panic.”
This is another sign that Leeds are interested, even if Farke has never been one to get too involved in transfer talks at Elland Road.
Here, we look at three striker options that Leeds could consider in the closing stages of the window…
Richard Kone – Wycombe Wanderers
Looking to the EFL, there aren’t a host of options residing in the Championship that look like viable options both in price and actual quality, but there is a signing worth considering in the division below.
Wycombe Wanderers striker Richard Kone looks like the profile of striker that would be a very good fit for Farke’s lone striker role.
14 goals in 26 games for the side chasing promotion, his goal conversion from shots (25%) is better than Joel Piroe’s (19%).
He has shown that he can link play well, whether he is holding the ball up and beating a guy with 57.8% dribbling success or 7.94 duels won per 90. Almost all of his goals have come in the penalty area from very close range.
He will eventually make it to the Championship at the age of 21, and Leeds could get him there sooner rather than later by signing him from the division below for a reasonably low price. The terms of his new contract are not yet known, but Leeds should have the power to provide what is needed.
Elijah Adebayo – Luton Town
A more rogue shout here with Luton Town’s Elijah Adebayo, who has been a poor finisher by his standards this season with five to his name.
But if you look at Leeds’ current roster, they already have a top-tier finisher in Piroe and a workhorse in Joseph who might improve shortly.
Leeds might use a different profile up front to give them more alternatives, and the 6’4″ Adebayo might be a player worth taking into consideration. He would provide Leeds a focal point to play more centrally and directly while taking advantage of several crossing opportunities each week.
Although Piroe’s technical skill may be a weakness, it hasn’t been a major obstacle on his journey to 15 goal contributions, so there is still room for improvement.
